പത്തനംതിട്ട: കുട്ടികളിലെ റുമാറ്റിക് ഹൃദ്രോഗ നിർണ്ണായ ക്യാമ്പിന്റെ സംസ്ഥാനതല ഉൽഘാടനം ആരോഗ്യ വകുപ്പ് മന്ത്രി ശ്രീമതി വീണാ ജോർജ് പുല്ലാട് ശ്രീ വിവേകാന്ദ ഹൈസ്കൂളിൽ വച്ചു നിർവഹിച്ചു.

പുഷ്പഗിരി മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് സോഷ്യൽ ആൻഡ് പ്രൈവന്റീവ് മെഡിസിൻ വിഭാഗവും, പുല്ലാട് കാരുണ്യ ഹെൽത്ത്‌ ഫൌണ്ടേഷനും, റുമാറ്റിക് ഹാർട്ട്‌ ക്ലബ്ബ് കേരള യും സംയുക്ത മായിട്ടാണ് ക്യാമ്പ് നടത്തി യത്. റുമാറ്റിക് ഹാർട്ട് ക്ലബ്ബ്‌ സംസ്ഥാന കോർഡിനേറ്റർ ഡോ ഫെലിക്സ് ജോൺസ് പ്രൊജക്റ്റ്‌ അവലോകനം നടത്തി. പുഷ്പഗിരി മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജ് ഡയറക്ടർ റവ : ഫാദർ. ജോർജ് വലിയ പറമ്പിൽ, ഡോ. എസ്. അബ്ദുൽ ഖാദർ,ശ്രീ ജിമ്മി മാത്യു,ശ്രീ. പി സി. സുരേഷ് കുമാർ, ശ്രീ. ഫിലിപ്പോസ് തോമസ്, അഡ്വ. എൻ. രാജീവ്‌ ഗോപാൽ,ശ്രീ. ലാൽജി കുമാർ,ശ്രീ. സി എസ്. മനോജ്‌,ശ്രീ ജിജു സാമൂവൽ ശ്രീ. അജിത് കുമാർ,ഡോ. റോസിൽ ജോർജ് വർഗീസ് തുടങ്ങിയർ സംബന്ധിച്ചു.തുടർന്ന് ഡോ കിരൺ രാച ന്ദ്ര ന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തി ൽ സെമിനാറും ക്യാമ്പും നടത്തി.റുമാറ്റ്ക്കു ഹൃദ്രോഗ ബോധവൽക്കരണത്തിനു ള്ള ആരോഗ്യ പഠന ബോർ ഡും മന്ത്രി റിലീസ് ചെയ്തു.

ഭാരതം ജൂൺ ഇരുപത് ദേശീയ റുമാറ്റിക് ഹൃദയദിനം ആയി ആചരിക്കുക യാണ്. ഭാരതത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയരോഗ ചികിത്സയുടെ മാതാവായി അംഗീകാരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഡോ. എസ്. പത്മാവതിയുടെ ജന്മ ദിനം ആണ് അന്ന്. റുമാറ്റിക് ഫീവർ കുറച്ചുകൊണ്ടു വരാനും റുമാറ്റിക് ഹൃദ്രോഗ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിനുമുള്ള ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടനയുടെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്ക് ചുക്കാൻ പിടിച്ചത് ഡോ.പത്മാവതിയായിരുന്നു. ഭാരതത്തിലെ ആദ്യ വനിതാ ഹൃദ്രോഗ ചികിത്സകയായ ഡോ. പത്മാ വതി 1917 ജൂൺ 20 ന് ബർമ്മയിലെ മ്യാൻമാറിൽ ജനിക്കുകയും എം ബി ബി എസ്സ് റൻഗൂണിൽ നിന്ന് നേടുകയും ചെയ്തു. തുടർന്ന് അവർ ഹാർവാർഡിലും ജോൺഹോപ്‌കിൻസു യൂണിവേഴ്സിറ്റി യിലും പഠിച്ചു എങ്കിലും തന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനമേഖല ആയി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത് പിതാവിന്റെ നാടായ ഭാരതം ആയിരുന്നു. രാഷ്ട്രം പത്മവിഭൂ ക്ഷൺ നൽകി ആദരിച്ച ഡോ. പത്മാവതി ആയിരുന്നു ഭാരതത്തിൽ ഹൃദ്രോഗ ചികിത്സക്കുള്ള ആദ്യ ക്ലിനിക് ഡൽഹിയിൽ ലേഡി ഹാർഡിങ്‌ ആശുപത്രിയിൽ ആരംഭിച്ചത്. തുടർന്ന് ആ മഹതിയാണ് ആൾ ഇന്ത്യ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ഓഫ് മെഡിക്കൽ സിയ്ൻസിൽ കാർഡിയോളജി വിഭാഗത്തിന് നേതൃത്വം കൊടുക്കുകയും 1981 ൽ നാഷണൽ ഹാർട്ട്‌ ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ട് ആരംഭിക്കുകയും നാഷണൽ ഹാർട്ട് ഫൌണ്ടേഷന്റെ പ്രഥമ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ആവുകയും ചെയ്തത്.. നമ്മുടെ ഹൃദ്രോഗ വിദഗ്ധരുടെ ആദ്യ തലമുറയിലെ എല്ലാവരെ യും പഠിപ്പിച്ചു വാർത്തെടുത്ത അവരുടെ പ്രധാന ലക്ഷ്യം ഭാരതത്തിലെ റുമാറ്റിക് ഹൃദ്രോഗ നിയന്ത്രണമായിരുന്നു. അതിനുവേണ്ടിയുള്ള ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടനയുടെയും വേൾഡ് ഹാർട്ട് ഫെഡറേഷന്റെയും ശ്രമങ്ങൾക്കു നേതൃത്വം നൽകി അവർ മുന്നിട്ടിറങ്ങിയതും ആ മേഖലയിൽ അവർ നടത്തിയ പഠനങ്ങ ളും പരിഗണിച്ചു കൊണ്ടാണ് അവരുടെ ജന്മദിനം “ദേശീയ റുമാറ്റിക് ഹൃദ്രോഗദിനമായി ആചരിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനം എടുത്തത്. നൂറ്റിമൂന്നാമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ കോവിഡനെ തുടർന്നാണ് 2020 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 29ന് ആ മഹതി രാഷ്ട്രത്തോട് വിടപറഞ്ഞത്. കേരളം ഡോ. പത്മാവതി യുടെ സ്വപ്നമായ റുമാറ്റിക് ഫീവർ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിന്റെ അരികിൽ എത്തിനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ കാലയളവിൽ അവരുടെ ജന്മദിനമായ ജൂൺ 20 ന് റുമാറ്റിക് ഹൃദ്രോഗത്തിനെതിരെയുള്ള ബോധ വൽക്കരണത്തിനു വേണ്ടി ഡോക്ടർ മാരുടെ വിവിധ കൂട്ടായ്മയായ കാർഡിയോളജിക്കൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഓഫ് ഇന്ത്യയും ഐ എം എ യും ഇന്ത്യൻ അക്കാദമി ഓഫ് പിഡിയാട്രിക്സും റുമാറ്റിക് ഹാർട്ട് ക്ലബ്ബും നടത്തുന്ന ശ്രമങ്ങൾക്കു കേരളത്തിലെ പൊതു സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ പിന്തുണയും സഹകരണവും ഉണ്ടാവാണമെന്ന് അഭ്യർത്ഥിക്കുന്നു.

NATIONAL RHEUMATIC HEART SUMMIT 2018 (NRHS’18)

NRHS’18- a national conference on Rheumatic Fever (RF) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) held on 11^th February 2018 at the Govt Medical College, Kottayam was a major event in the management of this problem. In an era ,where cardiologistsspeak more about statins and drug eluting stents, it was remarkable that the departments of Cardiology and Cardio- thoracic surgery at the Govt Medical College, Kottayam, along with the NGO Rheumatic Heart Club Of Kerala came together to organise this conference dealing with a social disease affecting the poor and the marginalized sections of the society. The conference also had the support of several professionalbodies including the Cardiological Society of India, Association of Physicians of India, Indian Academy of Paediatrics and Indian College of Cardiology. The conference received warm felicitations from the Chief Minister of Kerala and the Health Minister of Kerala.

The academic content of the conference included in depth review of the current concepts regarding the pathogenesis, diagnostic criteria and strategies of prevention. The speakers lauded the achievement of Kerala in the prevention of Rheumatic Fever, the figure for 2016 being 0.1/1000. Speakers noted that even though ICMR data indicated a progressive decline in the prevalence of RHD from 1970 to 2010, from 5.3 to <1 per 1000 school children, these figures may represent the best achievers ,while actual figures in many parts of India would be shockingly higher.

Professor George Cherian, Former Chief of Cardiology at CMC, Vellore and a Former President of the Cardiological Society of India delivered the first Rheumatic Heart Club oration. The gathering keenly listened to this highly informative talk on the progress in the understanding and management of Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease. Citing the example of Kuwait, where post-occupation, RF resurfaced in a previously developed country, Prof. Cherian cautioned against complacency in states like Kerala which have the best figures for RF control. Equally illuminating was a panel discussion on practical issues in the management and control of RF and RHD. In response to focused questions from the moderator ,the panellists highlighted problems like availability of Penicillin, access to care, changing perceptions and the way forward. The panel requested the Govt to ensure free availability of Benzathein Penicillin, to setup Safe injection Rooms in every district hospital and to subsidize valve replacement surgery. The panel also requested the  National and State Govt. to support the Global Resolution on Rheumatic Heart Disease coming up  at the World Health  Assembly in May 2018.

The major achievements of NRHS’18 included highlighting the current status of RF/RHD in India, providing practical recommendations to the Govt. of Kerala and the Govt of India regarding RF control and sensitizing the profession and the public regarding the message of World Heart Federation Roadmap for reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality through prevention and control of RHD. A well-compiled souvenir brought out in connection with the conference and distributed widely in India, served to reach the message to a much wider audience.
